Markus Huemer was born in Linz in 1968, where he studied painting, while during one of the most important European media art fairs, Ars Electronica, he kept a close eye on the direction in which media art was moving. He then attended the Kunstakademie Dusseldorf and was appointed a fellow at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. A scholarship from the ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe strengthened his interest in media art. In addition, he studied art history, philosophy and Latin philology. After teaching at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, he became a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. He exhibited in numerous internationally recognized institutions and galleries. He lives and works in Berlin.
