The Golden Ratio

The Golden Ratio

Location: Belgrade

Date: 19 - 29.04.2019.

“The Golden Ratio” is an exhibition by Petar Mošić that explores the themes of youth, identity, and the cultural obsession with wealth and gold. Mošić uses the portrait genre to display his painting skills and command of the Old Masters technique while also creating his own identity and diverging from more facile practices. The exhibition is a trap, hiding the painter’s real intentions behind exaggerated youth portraits done in a chiaroscuro manner. Mošić uses the portrait as a communication code to access personal contemplations and collective obsessions and to perform hidden narrations with emotional compression.

The exhibition raises two important topics of modernity. The first concerns the adolescent fascination with dazzle, meaning, and beaming of wealth, particularly gold, and its imprinting into adolescent spaces by adults. The second topic deliberates the issues of artistic representation of notional-ideological premises in an era where painting is but one of the present, though irreplaceable, mediums.

Mošić reiterates the issue of values and value criteria, pointing to the fact that certain social pathologies grow in the glow’s shadow. The exhibition questions whether harmony is possible in the present times of Machiavellian strategies and the hustle and bustle. Mošić offers answers through his alchemical, obsessive-magic outlook on his paintings, making the artwork universal and timeless.

Exhibition is realized in cooperation with Aleksić Collection.
